Choosing an Online Image Tool: Compression, Conversion and Privacy
What to look for when compressing images, converting formats or cropping online, why local processing beats uploading to a server, and how to use the 26 image tools in GEXNO ImgTools.
Two schools of online image tools
One kind uploads your images to a server, processes them and sends them back — fast, but your files leave the device. The other decodes and processes images directly in your browser with Canvas / WebAssembly, so they never leave your machine. For IDs, contracts or internal screenshots, the latter is far safer.
Choosing compression and formats
For photos, prefer WebP or AVIF — usually 25%–50% smaller than JPEG at the same quality. Use PNG when you need transparency with broad compatibility. Keep the original format and EXIF for legacy systems or lossless archives; otherwise strip EXIF metadata to avoid leaking GPS location.
Common workflows
Publishing an article: compress → resize → watermark. E-commerce listings: crop to a fixed ratio → batch compress. Assets: convert HEIC → extract dominant color. Compliance before upload: pixelate → strip EXIF.
